Het Chileense veenmos Magellanicum mos (veenmos) wordt al vele jaren gebruikt in de orchideeënteelt en terraria. Het is een 100% natuurlijk, biologisch en biologisch afbreekbaar product. Dankzij speciale saccharideverbindingen heeft het een antibacteriële werking en kunnen de opslagcellen (hyalocyten) 20 keer hun eigen gewicht aan water opnemen. De pH-waarde is 4,5 -5.

Het Chileense mos wordt vooral gekenmerkt door zijn frisheid en zijn zeer hoge zuiverheidsgraad.

Gebruik in het terrarium:

Veenmos wordt vaak gebruikt als substraat voor amfibieën, slangen, hagedissen, kikkers, schildpadden, enz. Het water dat in het veenmos is opgeslagen, verdampt langzaam en in het terrarium ontstaat een uitstekend microklimaat. Het mos dient onder andere ook als eileggend substraat voor overwintering.
Bovendien kan het worden gebruikt als decoratie in het hele terrarium.

Gebruik voor orchideeën:

Veenmos wordt al vele jaren gebruikt in de orchideeënteelt binnenshuis. Sinds jaren gebruiken we het ook voor de teelt van aardorchideeën (tuinorchideeën).
Veenmos is een belangrijk bestanddeel van orchideeënbodems, het slaat veel water op en voorziet zo de gevoelige orchideeënwortels gelijkmatig van vocht.
Door zijn desinfecterende werking vertraagt het effectief de groei van rottende bacteriën.
Veenmos is trouwens een hernieuwbare grondstof die intacte heidevelden nodig heeft. Het kan ongeveer om de 4 jaar worden geoogst.

Cultivation of garden- and houseplants, especially suitably for Orchids
Sphagnum moos can store up to 20 times its own weight of water and releases it gradually to its surroundings. Due to its saccharide complexes it has an antibacterial effect and reduces the risk of mold growth or putrid bacteria. At the same it has a high air-permeability and loosens up the soil and ensures sufficient air or oxygen in the soil. It can also help regulate PH-levels in plant substrates or aquariums.
Sphagnum moss is perfect for the cultivation of garden- and houseplants, such as Orchids and Bonsais. It is free of tannic acids, which are harmful to the sensitive roots of Orchids and Bonsais.
 
If used in a Substrate mix it retains great amounts of excess water and releases it gradually when the surroundings get dry. That way it reduces the risk of waterlogging and mold efficiently and ecologically.
